Concept Help
This page is for players who could use some help coming up with concepts for the game and includes some prompts to help with the character creation process
Background Focused
For background focused characters, your intent is to drive hard at whichever background you've chosen for your character and make this your defining trait. Background characters will often talk about their past or think about their past often. Often transition times are important for these characters. What caused you to leave your previous background? Are you happy or sad about this transition? Are you trying to escape your background or is it something you're proud of?
These characters often have defining moments in their past which don't necessarily have resolutions. These characters are who they are today because of events in their past, but sometimes (not always) these events are irreconcilable. Whether they lost everything, learned a great truth, made an enemy or a friend, often times these background events shape who a character is, but doesn't necessarily give the driving force behind what they're seeking now (these often make for Wanderer style characters)
Profession/Action Focused
Profession or Action focused characters are generally focused on what they do NOW. Unlike Background characters, these characters let their jobs define them. Makers wanna make. Gunslingers want to fight. While everyone does their profession, these characters define THEMSELVES by their profession.
Some questions to answer for these characters are: What has drawn your character to this profession? Why did you choose this instead of something else? Are there other things you're good at (but haven't pursued?) What is the most rewarding aspect of your profession? The least? What's a secret belief you hold about your profession? What are your goals with your profession?
Shared Stories
The World of Gethsemane is full of strange stories, and though everyone comes from random parts of the wastes, we've introduced a series of events that players can opt into being a part of. The stories are listed here and when you pick a story to join, we'll add you to the appropriate Discord channel and you can work with the other players from this same story to tell a bit of your background. We encourage you to keep these as brief interactions rather than coming into play with deep character ties, but leave this ultimately to your discretion. We've split these Shared Stories into three pillars that dive deeper into the concepts of our game.
Western Pillar
The Mad Sheriff (5/5 Slots Available) - Everyone loved the Sheriff in Lovelace until he went sideways and took over the town for himself. The town had a policy to check in your guns when you came into town, and so by the time you all broke free of his Tyrannical reign the town and those who went through the experience would never be the same
Post Apocalyptic
The Cracked Cloister (5/5 Slots Available) - Many believe the Cloisters to be secret troves of supplies kept loosely guarded, and more than one band of marauders seek them out. The bandits who made their way to The Cloister of Still Water found little in the way of supplies there and a dark secret. Which side were you on and how did it change you?
Mystery/Horror
The City of Strangers (5/5 Slots Available) - It didn't seem odd while you lived inside the City of Strangers but now that you've left you can't remember any of the people who were there. You remember what you did and how your life was effected, you just don't remember the faces of anyone else from there, and those you meet you don't remember their faces. Come to think of it. You can't even remember the name of the city itself.
